Two-Day Preconference Tour
Come see agroforestry in Northcentral Minnesota! A two-day tour will
take place before the 2005 Agroforestry Conference and will feature
speakers during the bus ride, a delicious supper of northern Minnesota
fare, and
stops that highlight:
- Biomass (harvest of native biomass, plantation biomass and
a developing processing plant)
- Sustainable wood harvest
- Short-rotation woody crop plantations
- Non-timber forest products

Basic tour route:
Below is a general outline of the pre-conference tour. Mike Demchik,
the tour organizer will provide more details when you are picked up on
Saturday morning. This tour will cover areas of the state not included
in the in-conference tours.
- 7:30 – Pick up at Kahler Grand Hotel in Rochester – Meet
in lobby.
- 9:00 – Pick up at Transit Center at Lindberg Terminal of Minneapolis
Airport
- 9:00-12:00 Bus ride to Meadowlands
- 12:00-1:00 Lunch in the Meadowlands
- 1:00-1:30 Tour of Gerald Wicks Farm
- 2:30-3:30 Drive to McGregor
- 3:30-4:30 Tour of the Winery and site
- 4:30-6:30 Drive to Staples (snack in route)
- 6:30-7:30 Dinner
- 7:30-8:00 Post-dinner tour of the Agroforestry Demo plots
Overnight in Staples at the Super 8

- 8:30-9:15 Drive to Agroforestry Farm
- 9:15-10:00 Tour farm and talk about agroforestry in central Minnesota
- 10:00-10:30 Drive to hybrid poplar planting

- 12:30-1:15 Drive to Little Falls to Ethanol Plant using biomass energy
